Dear Food Company Leaders,

Dear Food Company Leaders,

Poll after poll shows that an overwhelming number of American consumers simply want to know what’s in their food.

Despite your customers’ clear desires, your companies have spent hundreds of millions of dollars fighting mandatory GMO labeling across the country and in Washington.

Now, many of you are trying to rally support for voluntary solutions that rely upon high-tech gimmicks and which will fail many Americans.

The fact is nine out of ten Americans want the right to know whether their food contains GMOs – just like consumers in 64 other nations – and want a disclosure on the package*.

This should not surprise any of us. Consumers demand transparency from the brands they love. Promoting high-tech solutions alone without a disclosure on the food package is just another way of keeping consumers in the dark. This will ultimately erode trust in your brands.

We believe the best solution is the two simple words used on food labels around the world:

We believe the best solution is the two simple words used on food labels around the world: Geneticall Modified

Adding them has not jeopardized food supplies or sales, nor has it raised food prices – and it’s what consumers want.

Now is the time for us to come together to develop a mandatory federal standard for GMO labeling that works for both companies and consumers.

Let’s end this debate and solve this problem. We look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,

Gary Hirshberg
